Craig’s Story of Baptism

06/06/11

Hey All. Check out our friend Craig Stephen’s story about being baptized. Remember, you can be baptized on June 19th! Just click on this link to get dunked!

“Accepting Christ was a domino affect caused by several events and challenges. My friend Courtney black mailing me into coming to church, my friend danny challenging me on why I was here and what I believe and hearing his point of view of how God’s been calling me, my friend Sharlene saying “it’s better to believe and be wrong then not believe and be wrong” and my plea to God to save my friend’s cat and he delivered the cat home safely. All adding up to me finally accepting the idea that Christ exists.

Accepting Jesus has made me realize that acts of God aren’t just simply “coincidences”, I now realize that God is working in all our lives and I now enjoy this fact that God is in control of my life and that I have someone to pray to when I need help.

Before receiving Christ I was a very dark withdrawn negative person who would purposely go around opposing anyone’s beliefs or opinions just because I could. I got a very sick perverse sense of joy by being the devils advocate and opposing peoples views no matter what it was it be it sports, faith, hobbies, anything really.

I am now much happier with my life, people see a light in my eyes and no longer darkness, I’m so grateful for my new faith, and it’s opened up so many new avenues in my life that I never saw before and never knew COULD be opened.

And while I still like a good challenge I now do it to accomplish a sense of bettering myself and no longer out of a sense of being bitter.

I wanted to be baptized because while I was baptized as a child and confirmed I was still skeptic and never believed but now I’m doing it because its my choice and I’m doing it for me and my walk with God, not to impress my mother. Now I truly believe.”

Remembering the Forgotten God – blog by Julia Deyo

03/02/11

Hello C4 awakening community! Our connect group is doing a new series called “Remembering the Forgotten God” which is a series on the Holy Spirit. This past Tuesday our connect group got together and dove into some great discussion about the Holy Spirit. We were each challenged to think about our current beliefs that we hold about the Spirit. Personally, I found that my beliefs about the spirit are limited because I have never really thoroughly researched and studied scriptures that specifically described the Spirit. As a group we looked up numerous scriptures from the bible that described the Holy Spirit. These verses reminded us that the Holy Spirit is powerful and it can radically transform lives! Its funny how as Christians, we often overlook this.
It is often said in sermons that “the same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us!” Do we really believe, and live by this?

I was inspired by what Tony Campolo shared with the C4 congregation two Sundays ago and wrote about in his book “Letters to a Young Evangelical. He says:

Each morning, as soon as I wake up, I take time-sometimes as much as half an hour-to center myself on Jesus. I say his name over and over again to drive back the 101 things that begin to clutter up my mind the minute I open my eyes. Jesus is my mantra, as some would say. The constant repetition of his name clears my head of everything but the awareness of his presence. By driving back all other concerns, I am able to create what the ancient Celtics Christians called “the thin place.” The thin place is that spiritual condition wherein the separation between the self and God becomes so thin that God is able to break through and envelope the soul. After a while, an inner stillness pervades my whole being and in that quietude I begin to feel myself being invaded by the spirit of Jesus Christ- and certainly and joy fill my soul .”

It is not just Tony and a few well known Christian leaders that have the privilege to call upon the spirit of Jesus everyday, all Christians can do this! We all need to continually seek out and get to know the powerful Spirit of Jesus Christ that lives in us! I am looking forward to our next connect group to learn more about the Holy Spirit that lives in us as Christians! Hope to see you there!

LOOK HOW FAR YOU’VE COME
By: Kyla Tollefson Courtesy of: http://www.unlockmagazine.com

Why is it that we are so uncomfortable with change? We’re anxious about taking a big step and reaching out into the unknown; the uncomfortable zone. It’s as if we are not totally happy, but at ease enough to settle in and allow life to happen around us. There is some part of the unknown that seems mysterious, but it’s not adequate enough for us to actually venture into.

We know deep inside that we would be better off if we made some changes to our life and tried new things, but we’d rather not. We are so comfy in our bubble world of mistakes and letdowns. Comfort has overtaken the satisfaction of pushing forward and fighting the urge to settle. That’s the place where bad decisions are all too common.

Surrendering it over to God sounds nice, but is too difficult because that means losing all control. Fear has paralyzed us. We can’t move forward. But, in all of this we fail to see that the reality and mediocrity of our present circumstances is in itself paralyzing.

Each day that passes, the fear burns deeper within us. What would happen if I just let go? It’s a crossroad that every person stands at during some point in life.

Just surrender. There is freedom in surrendering. It doesn’t mean perfection afterwards, but it does mean that God has the reigns and gives us His strength.

We are the ones who put limitations on ourselves, but in Him all things are possible. If we surrender, He has the ability to set free what has held us captive.

We will come out victorious, having fought the good fight, and at the end of it all we

will see that each step was worth it.

Look how far you’ve come.
